London – UK – May 31st 2001. Accounts departments in UK businesses can save time and recoup outstanding monies by using Microsoft Office XP Smart Tags developed by Sage that provides instant links to customer accounts.
Sage has developed Office XP Smart Tag prototypes that give finance staff working in the Office suite of applications access to information from the Sage Business Management Systems (BMS). This allows them to retrieve important information such as customer’s contact address or phone number, financial details or credit status.
This means users in Word or Outlook can write letters or emails, and once the Smart Tags recognises the account number, information regarding previous unpaid invoices are opened and can be included in the correspondence to prompt payment from late paying customers. Alternatively, finance staff working in Excel, can automatically obtain telephone numbers of customers, which can then be used to call outstanding accounts.
Nick Voller, E-Business Product Marketing Manager from Sage said: “We are initially focusing our Smart Tags technology on helping businesses obtain money they are owed. All businesses, regardless of size, have a need to keep account and recover money that is rightfully theirs. By using Microsoft Smart Tags customised in this way, we are helping make this process easier. Interestingly, the ability of Smart Tags to be extensible means we could develop a solution that can not only find the relevant telephone number but also call the number too.
“Microsoft Smart Tags technology means that we can develop solutions customised for any of our customers in manufacturing, distribution or service companies. The challenge for Office XP Smart Tags partners like ourselves is to develop meaningful Smart Tags solutions that benefits enterprises by linking information from databases and bringing it to the user’s attention to save them time and effort.
Andrew Pickup, Head of Marketing for Productivity Software at Microsoft Limited, added: “We are pleased to be working with such an innovative partner who is not only looking to integrate information with Smart Tags but use them to deliver a whole new way of working.”
